Not plain sailing
It is a rare occurrence to be "punched" by a professional actor, but this was the experience of Ricky Moss from Mossel Bay, when he acted in a movie filmed in the Dominican Republic.
The movie, Road House, stars well-known actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
But Ricky was "punched" by actor Billy Magnussen in the movie.
Captain
Ricky works as a captain of luxury super yachts, mainly in the Caribbean. Right now he is in St Kitts and Nevis, a country consisting of two islands.
He and the rest of the staff of the yacht, Seaclusion, were part of the movie.
Ricky (37), who went to Park Primary and Point High schools, told Mossel Bay Advertiser: “I have sailed around the world and been a captain for more than 10 years.”
In the movie, Ricky was the yacht captain for the bad guy. Ricky says: "Being part of making a film is not what you would expect. There are so many factors involved that we don't think of.
'Super strict'
"They are super strict, precise and particular about every aspect. Jake Gyllenhaal is treated like a king. He has personal assistants and personal chefs.
"It's late hours and a deadline to film all the scenes, as everyone gets paid by the hour. The director is under pressure to get the shot he wants in a short time, to not go over the budget he was given.
"I acted in a few scenes with Jake and he was super understanding and great to work with. It was an amazing experience. There were a lot of stunt coordinators and safety officers in the filming of the movie."
Ricky said Gyllenhaal did not have his photograph taken with others on the set, so he does not have a picture of himself with him.
Stunt
When asked about being "punched", Ricky says a stunt is staged in which you are hit with a inflated punching balloon which feels like a boxing glove, so you can feel and get used to how you would react to a real, physical punch. Then immediately, they start the scene, so that you respond in the same way.
The movie is a remake of the original action-packed Road House of 1989, in which Patrick Swayze starred.
Road House premiered on 8 March, but was not later shown on the big screen. It was released by Amazon MGM Studios via Prime Video on 21 March.
