High tea, Spanish dance at Santos Haven

-

The residents of Santos Haven Frail Care and Assisted Living Quarters in Mossel Bay were treated to a high tea and entertainment last weekend.

The hosts, Petra du Toit and Minnie Mostert, went to great lengths to arrange an entertaining morning, which was also attended by the Santos Haven executive committee chairperson, Fiona Williamson.

The oldest Santos Haven resident, Bert Kühn, turned 100 on 14 April, so the high tea honoured Bert, while three other residents' birthdays were also celebrated.

A number of residents at Santos Haven are in their 90s.

Some of the residents are extremely weak, while others are able to take part in activities, such as Bingo, watching DVDs and weekly exercise classes offered by the Santos Haven staff and some of the residents.

Special days

Outings and surprises on special days such as Mother's and Father's days are also arranged, using contributions from "Santos Mall", which is Santos Haven's own second hand shop, which helps raise funds for the two frail care units.

Residents in the complex are also busy with initiatives to decorate the Santos Haven Frail Care units.

"The nurses take care of the residents with love, care and respect," a spokesperson for Santos Haven said.

Santos Haven thanks Pierre Myburgh and Jannie Mostert, who provided the foottapping piano music for the residents at the high tea on 20 April.

Great excitement

The great excitement of the morning was the Spanish dancing. A big thank you goes to Marlise Steenekamp for providing her dancers.

Thanks also goes to Hannah Claasen and her daughter Liezel Oosthuizen, who sponsored the dancers.

Special mention must be made of the

Santos Mall and helpers, Isabel van Tonder, Anna-Marie Harris, Debbie de Kock, Cathy Faure, Sandra Buitendag and Jannie Mostert.

A spokesperson for the Santos Haven Executive Committee noted: "Our heartfelt thanks to the residents of Santos Haven, who always remember the more delicate members of our little society.

"It is such an honour to listen to the history of our residents. Special mention goes to Oom Bert on his 100th birthday celebration.

"We are so very blessed to have such caring people in our resort, who are prepared to offer their time to help others.

"Rotary is always about service above self and these individuals shine by example."

Santos Haven is a Rotary-assisted senior citizens' complex.
