Father sentenced to life
Jan Roman (25) of Pearston was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Grahamstown High Court on 6 October, for the murder of his two-year-old son.
Roman entered the home of his girlfriend, also the boy's mother, in Pearston on 2 February 2019.
He assaulted his girlfriend and grabbed the boy from her arms. When police arrived,
Roman stabbed his son in the throat. The boy succumbed to his injuries.
According to Captain Bradley Rawlinson, Spokesperson for the Graaff-Reinet SAPS, a case of murder was opened on 2 February. Roman was arrested on the scene at 20:00. Captain Rodney Isaacs, the Acting Station Commander of Graaff-Reinet SAPS, commended Detective Sergeant Lungisa Nomdatya for his thorough investigation, which secured a conviction.
