Introducing spring décor

-

The change of seasons brings with it an opportunity to freshen up one’s interior design.

According to Adrian Goslett, Regional Director and CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa, spending too much time in the home can make homeowners develop an itch to sell and move to a new space.

“While sometimes this is the best option, especially if the home no longer suits the homeowner’s needs, other times it might be better to fix up the space to make it more enjoyable. This way, homeowners not only create a better living environment for themselves but are also likely to increase the value of the home, depending on the updates that are completed,” says Goslett.

To help homeowners change up their space, RE/MAX of Southern Africa suggests the following ways to inject some spring colour and vibrancy into the home:

Create a statement kitchen

For those who would like to make a bold change, open shelving in the kitchen has become a bit of a design statement these days. To add the warmth of spring into the space, stage the shelf with your rainbow range of Le Creuset or any other bright glassware and crockery.

Two-toned kitchen cabinetry is another trend that is growing in popularity. To add colour to the space, homeowners could paint the bottom cabinetry in pastel shades like baby blue or yellow.

The top cabinetry could then be kept in neutral shades, like white or black.

Neutral fixtures with pops of colour

The best way to create a space that is easily changeable according to the seasons is to keep the bones of the home - i.e. the walls and fittings - neutral. In spring, homeowners can add pops of bright colour in the form of scatter cushions, throws, lampshades, and other decorative knick-knacks.

As a bonus, keeping the fixtures of the home neutral will mean that the home will have the broadest buyer appeal if and when the homeowner decides to sell. front door could always be painted in a bold and bright spring colour to add a bit of character. This should also create some extra curb appeal when done right, which can end up adding value to the home.

“These simple design tricks can do wonders at creating a new look and feel within a home,” says Goslett. “However, there is only so much fresh decor can do. Those whose homes are no longer suitable to their needs should consult a local real estate advisor to find out what else is available in their preferred suburbs.”
