Capricorn TVET students graduate in style
Despite the challenges of unemployment confronting large numbers of graduates, Capricorn TVET College principal Lekau Mamabolo said their 2023 graduates are employable and skilled.
He reiterated his clear stance during a series of graduation ceremonies held at Bolivia Lodge recently.
Here, the college successfully conferred diplomas and certificates on 1 098 graduates from the Seshego, Polokwane, Ramokgopa and Senwabarwana campuses. The institution offers only two types of qualifications under the faculties of engineering, business and general and utilities studies.
Before 693 national certificates and 405 national diplomas were handed over to deserving individuals, Mambolo expressed certainty that this cohort of students would survive the firm grip that comes with qualified professionals, and prosper.
Statistics SA’s 2022 first quarter Quarterly
Labour Force Survey (QLFS) showed that the unemployment rate among young graduates aged 15-24 years declined by
7,7 percentage points from 40,3% while it increased by 6,9 percentage points to 22,4% for graduates aged 25-34 years.
The group will prosper in various workplaces as well as entrepreneurial spaces, Mamabolo remarked.
The tough employment market was also mentioned by keynote speaker, Dr Dikeledi Mahlo who said good moral values and ethics would stand the graduates in good stance.
“When your moral compass is steady, you become more eligible in the workplace. Take opportunities as they come and assure yourself that your acquired skills will assist you in bettering your future.”
National diploma in marketing graduate, Mosima Kwerane said the encouragement was good for her. “You obviously worry about what the future holds, but I am confident that I will permeate the industry and succeed with what I have acquired.”
