LPPSA honours shooters

-

Limpopo Provincial Practical Shooting Association (LPPSA) held its annual Closed Championship Shooting competition, followed by its prize-giving dinner at Pietersburg Club on November 11 during which participating members were honoured for their participation and contribution to the sport.

During 2023, no fewer than five members were awarded national colours for participation in the Thailand IPSC World Handgun and Shotgun Championship. They represented the senior classic team: Gerard Dokter, Tinus Botha and Dion du Bruyn.

Tinus Erasmus was appointed as the national team manager, and thereby also received his national colours.

Sakkie van Wyk has been selected for the national team for the World Shotgun Championship to be held in Thailand in December. Van Wyk will participate in the senior open division.

Several members were awarded special merits awards for their exceptional contribution to building the sport. The merits awards were bestowed on Gerrit Dokter, Jenny Dokter, Tinus Erasmus, Sakkie van Wyk, Daleen van Rensburg, Temba Biriyadi and Jameson Dhaura.

Provincial colours were awarded to several members who represented LPPSA at national and inter-provincial competitions.

Junior members who had won medals at national level include Erik Rautenbach (bronze, standard juniors) and Daniel Scott (gold and IPSC President’s Medal, PCC juniors). Erik was also awarded the best junior - standard handgun division. Daniel Scott was awarded the most improved shooter and best development shooter, best super junior - PCC division.

LPPSA has several junior members who are progressing up the point logs in their divisions, and who have promising futures in the sport.

Practical shooting is accessible to the youngest of shooters, as soon as a young shooter can hold and handle a handgun safely, such person can compete in practical shooting.

The sport has actively participating members from as young as 10 years of age. The younger a shooter starts competing, the better the shooter will be when one can obtain a competition-use firearm licence (age 16) as a dedicated sport shooter.

Practical shooting is a family sport, and one of the most exciting types of outdoor sporting disciplines in the world.

It develops firearm safety, hand-eye coordination, discipline, tactical thinking, and movability.

LPPSA has affiliated clubs in Polokwane, Makhado, Tzaneen, Phalaborwa and Mookgopong.

Anyone who is interested to become involved in practical shooting can contact Philip Smit via WhatsApp on 083 269 0892.
