DA youth leader resigns
The Limpopo DA youth chairperson who was facing disciplinary action for putting the party into disrepute, has resigned.
Provincial DA leader, Lindy Wilson confirmed having received Tiego Thotse’s resignation notice on Friday.
Subsequent to having sent the letter via email to the provincial leadership, Thotse released a public statement detailing that he had also notified particularly Wilson and youth deputy chairperson in the administration office, Lydren Nyeleti about his willful release from his role in the party’s youth league and by extension, the provincial and federal executive committees.
Thotse became involved as youth leader during the party’s provincial election held at Bolivia Lodge last year.
While his reasons for resigning were not mentioned, Wilson confirmed that at the time of his resignation, Thotse was facing disciplinary action for bringing the party into disrepute.
During a party youth protest action in which he led calling for the removal of the DA’s Jacques Smalle from the executive, Wilson confirmed to Polokwane Observer that Thotse was suspended with a number of others for peddling misinformation in the media, without following internal processes.
She said Thotse and another youth leader, Khutso Kobe were suspended for involving the public in their call for Smalle to resign or be removed from his portfolio, without having first followed internal processes such as informing the provincial executives.
Thotse stated that ‘prevalent and persistent rumours’ going around, that he has decided to join another political organisation, were simply untrue and that he would remain a DA member, notwithstanding his membership suspension.
