Project: Build a shoe rack A life-saving spanner

- Alexander George

Aside from the modern moisture-wicking insole that keeps your feet cool in the summer, Corcoran jump boots are sewn to nearly the same specs as the ones made for World War II paratroopers air-dropping into France and Germany. The thick leather around the toe boxes and instep is surprisingly flexible, making the boots comfortable enough to wear to work. Try the 1500s, which have a flat rubber sole instead of a lug sole. They’re lighter and much quieter. If you swap out the fray-prone stock laces and remember to resole them every few years, your boots may even outlast you. –
