NINTENDO IS READY to give Playstation and Xbox a run for its money with the easy-on-the-eye, innovative, versatile Switch.

We’ll get the aesthetics thing out of the way first: the Switch console comes in two versions, either with a set of grey Joy- Con controllers or with one neon blue and one neon red controller.

But if we’re honest, the Switch’s versatility is what sets it apart. Mainly, it offers three playing modes: TV, tabletop and handheld. Not only can it connect to a TV at home, but it also instantly transforms into an on-the-go handheld using its 155 mm screen. Players can enjoy a home-console experience anytime and anywhere with battery life of up to six hours.

The Joy- Cons can be used independently in each hand, or together as one game controller when attached to the Joy- Con grip. They can also attach to the main console for use in handheld mode, or can be shared with friends to enjoy 2-up action in supported games. Each Joy-con has a full set of buttons and can act as a standalone controller; including an accelerometer and gyroscope motion sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible.

To share the action, the Switch makes it easy for players to stay connected. Up to eight consoles can be connected for local wireless play.

Included in the Switch package is a main console, two Joy- Con controllers, a Joy- Con grip, a set of Joy- Con wrist straps, a Nintendo Switch dock (which holds the main console and connects it to a TV), an HDMI cable and an AC adaptor.

Nintendo has also announced select games perfect for the Switch, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey and Snipperclips.

Price: R5 999.
