BATTLE OF THE BULB

-

Downlighter globes are notoriously difficult to remove and re-install, especially when they have been there for a while.

After struggling to replace one and getting myself cut trying to grip the flat side of the globe with the tips of my fingers, I thought that there must be a better way to do this. While administering first aid to the bloody tips of my fingers, I came up with a devilish plan to beat the bulb. I took a screw-on milk bottle cap, slightly smaller than the flat side of the globe, and wrapped it with insulation tape a few times, leaving the sticky side on the outside.

The removal and reinstallation of the globe is now simple: the globe sticks to the insulation tape just enough for one to grab the bulb and turn it in or out. The screw-on cap is deep enough to get a good grip and, hey presto, job done. Happy wife, happy life.

Maybe I should patent it? G MUNRO CENTURION
