FACING UP TO CRIME

-

Thanks for an awesome magazine and it was an honour to win best tip last August in the best magazine on our planet.

I am writing to you on a different subject altogether. I have an exciting article I thought you might want to write about. During August 2017, I was mugged by four guys at 9am on a busy Pretoria road. I was shocked that there were CCTV cameras and the cops mentioned that they have two muggings a week on this stretch (Pretoria Road, outside the Tshwane building).

Would you believe that nothing could be done even though I had three distinct, clear fingerprints?

That is not where the story gets exciting. I work for a technology company that developed an incredibly good card recognition technology. I spoke to my team members and, before we knew it, we had developed a computer vision solution with a 99 per cent accuracy on facial recognition that can be used with existing CCTV in real time. We have already done a POC with casinos and SAP has integrated with our open API.

What we are doing with this technology and how we offer it to the market is awesome as we are developing a product that is cheap for all users, from homes to large corporations. This means a safer world for everybody. Our technology can detect a face and warn the right people before a threat can happen. ROBERT POTHIER CENTURION
