Our favourite gadget from 2017 is only getting better with the latest additions to its arsenal of play modes. Labo is a collection of cardboard augmented reality extensions that you get to construct yourself to add an extra dimension to gameplay. At launch there’ll be a piano, fishing rod, robot and full mech suit, but Nintendo is promising to open the platform to developers and curate a DIY community around it. You add the Switch to the cardboard structures as either a VR headset or, in the case of the robot, the Joycons become the steering mechanism. The system harnesses the Switch’s generous array of sensors and precision vibration motors (HD Rumble) and is a testament to the gaming system’s supreme flexibility. We can’t stop nerding out.
