JAGUAR E-PACE

-

The world may have embraced the practical charms of the SUV but, as the 2018 Jaguar E-pace demonstrates, there’s still room to experiment when you’re building a compact crossover. Indeed, the E-pace is the automaker’s new compact SUV, a smaller F-pace which shares cues with the F-type coupe. E-pace is offered in three diesel engines, with outputs of 110 kw, 132 kw and 177 kw, and two petrol engines producing 183 kw and 221 kw, respectively. The design calls heavily on the F-pace short overhangs and side profile with big creases in the fenders, headlamps and oversized rear haunches from the F-type coupe. S-model and above trims get J-blade daytime running lights, while the rear lamps are LED as standard.

Whichever model you opt for, there’s Integral Link rear suspension and a special hollow-cast aluminium front suspension design to keep weight down. Inside, Jaguar’s wraparound dashboard splits the front space between driver and passenger. There’s more satin chrome and leather, while contrast stitching lifts the leather on the seats, steering wheel, and gear shifter. The dashboard gets a 10-inch touchscreen and Jaguar’s updated Touch Pro infotainment system. It can be optionally outfitted with a 12,3-inch digital display for the driver’s instrumentation, along with a colour head-up display. 4G LTE with a Wifi hotspot for up to eight devices is standard on the S, SE, and HSE cars. Compelling styling, enthusiasm on the road, and attainable luxury in the cabin add up to a crossover with personality, even if it might not be the cheapest route to practicality.
