Time to demand furnace solution
THE article in POST August 10, “Solve this burning question’’, is a saga going on for years, with no solution to end the furnace problem, which is a sad state of affairs.
Thank you, Ashwin Trikamjee, president of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha, for giving your full attention to trying the resolve this problem once and for all.
The eThekwini Municipality, which ostensibly espouses the principle of Batho Pele (“people first”), clearly have no way of showing it.
The municipality has shown time and again the disrespect it has for the Hindu community.
What is even sadder is that we have had no help from the councillors in the Chatsworth area. As a result of this, the municipality should realise that ratepayers should not be further burdened by funding of its non-performing departments. They are clearly failing the people.
It is time that we rise and demand that the relevant department does the right thing, as to ensure people have a right to the crematorium and a dignified funeral. I am tired of head of communications Tozi Mthethwa apologising for the inconvenience the crematorium has caused, when this is a recurring problem every month.
In regard to a proposal for a third furnace at Mobeni Heights Crematorium, I would just like to remind POST readers it’s a dream that will never happen.
I say this with confidence, because the council will drag its feet for another 10 years.
I would like to add: “Success is achieved by providing the service that people desire”. DHAYALAN MOODLEY
