Third instalment of ‘Singam’ mesmerises

-

IRECTOR Hari introduced Suriya as Duraisingam in the first Singam. The huge success led to the extension of the franchise, resulting in this third instalment and the tagline at the end of the movie hints at a further instalment.

Great news for Suriya’s fans as Singam is that it’s his show all the way.

Duraisingam (Suriya) , a highly commendable police officer, is called on by the Andra Pradesh government to investigate the death of police commissioner of Vizagapatinam.

The commissioner was on the verge of exposing and arresting the head of a powerful and wealthy international crime syndicate led by Vittal (Thakur Anoop Singh), who finds delight in disposing Australia’s e-waste and medical waste in the dumping grounds of Andra.

He is assisted by a local thug Reddy, who successfully executes Vittal’s business in Andra.

Duraisingam’s inimitable style in hunting down Vittal forms the remainder of the plot of Singam 3.

Suriya does not just act the role but lives it. Slated as one of the hardest working and most committed artists in the industry, his dedication has paid off handsomely and it raises his credibility a notch higher as a bankable artist.

Whether it’s in the high voltage action scenes, sentiment or dance sequences, Suriya mesmerises, proving his mettle at being more than a handsome face.

Hari’s formulaic approach and his fast-paced narration contributes to the success of the film.

Shruthi Hassan as the feisty journalist, Agni, has a meatier role than Anushka.

Anushka’s role as Kavya, Duraisingam’s obedient wife, is limited.

Thakur Anoop Singh as the antagonist débuts in Tamil cinema and his role is commendable.

This Suriya-Harris Jayraj combination is yet again a successful combo.

The songs are a massive hit, a trademark composition of Jayraj.

Soori is roped in for comic relief and he makes a brave effort to live up to the roles essayed by Vivek in the previous two instalments.

Radika, in the role of a widow, who is concerned about her daughter’s future, impacts on the movie in spite of her brief appearance.

The third instalment continues to mesmerise and entertain barring a few shortfalls.

However, it is Suriya’s charismatic, high energised and magnetic on-screen presence that redeems Singam 3. – Mala Lutchmanan
