Shruti signs for big-budget period drama

ACTRESS Shruti Haasan, pictured, has been signed to play the leading lady in the mega-budget Tamil period drama Sanghamitr­a, which will star Jayam Ravi and Arya in the lead and will roll from April.

“Shruti had recently finished the paper work and is excited to be part of the project,” said a source from the film’s unit.

“The makers had several options but they eventually chose Shruti because they wanted someone who is popular but at the same time can perform.”

The source said that Shruti, who is currently basking in the success of the Tamil action movie SI3, will commence shooting for Sanghamitr­a from May.

The film is being made on a large budget.

“It will be the biggest project of her career thus far.

“She’s very excited because her role will give her an opportunit­y to attempt something she hasn’t done so far,” the source added.

To be directed by Sundar C and produced by Sri Thenandal Films, the film will also be released in Telugu and Hindi.

“It will be simultaneo­usly made in Telugu.

“In Hindi, however, it will be made with an entirely different cast and the process will take time.”

The movie will have music by AR Rahman. – IANS ACTRESS Amy Jackson, pictured, says that the last leg of her film 2.0 will be shot in Mumbai.

The actress took to Twitter to share the news alongside a photograph of the film’s director, Shankar, holding the camera.

“Last leg of 2.0 with Shankar and the team! Next stop Mumbai,” wrote Jackson.

The film also stars southern superstar Rajinikant­h, who will be reprising the roles of Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti, with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar.

The movie will also be released in Telugu and Hindi. – IANS
