Ram Maharaj deserves praise

THE article, “A more tolerant society”, by Ram Maharaj refers.

I felt very proud as a Hindu reading the article.

I have yet to read an article so well researched and presented in such a dynamic yet simple, reader-friendly style.

The writer has succinctly argued with factual points of merit.

I agree with all the arguments, which were perfectly substantiated.

Ram Maharaj says it as it is – no sugar coating.

It made compelling reading.

No doubt this article will unleash debate, which in my view is healthy in a democracy. The truth often hurts. Nevertheless, good always triumphs over evil and this is humanity’s greatest hope.

His stance, while it may be viewed unfavourably by some, is actually meant as a safeguard for all racial and religious groups, who will in future enjoy the benefits, hopefully, in a more tolerant South African society.

Like Maharaj, we all need to tackle important issues like these, carefully with dignity and honesty.

All religions are sacred to their followers and if slandered or undermined in any way, then appropriate sanctions must be imposed legally.

The constitution guarantees freedom of worship to followers of all religions.

I want to compliment and support the South African Hindu Dharma Sabha for boldly fighting for the rights and interests of all Hindus at the highest government level. The article was brilliant! For the sake of our beloved South Africa and all races and religions, I hope the hate crimes and hate speech bill will be passed by Parliament sooner rather than later. VIJAY MAHARAJ
