2017/8 Tamil calendar cut-out with auspicious dates

-

VANAKKAM and sincere greetings to our Tamil community.

The executive, trustees, advisories and provincial affiliates of the South African Tamil Federation express our best wishes for a fulfilling, resourceful and flourishing year 5 118, a spiritual year of optimism, prosperity and progressive change in our country.

On April 14, Tamils worldwide celebrated the beginning of the Tamil New Year in this Kaliyugam (the age of optimism and transformation).

Each year, in a 60-year cycle, is given a special significance, inspiring people to live a life that describes and gives meaning to that year.

This year we celebrate the 31st cycle, Hevilambi Varusham, Kaliyugam element iron, bringing strongwilled experiences of a wholesome year of refreshing energy, success and comfort.

Our country is experiencing serious political, economic and transformation challenges and we strongly believe any hidden evil elements (or negative influences) that arise will eventually be put down by our actions of righteousness.

Our country and the world will witness an abundance of good luck and fortune – truthfulness, goodness and justice will ultimately prevail.

Therefore, it’s our sincere privilege to, once again, on behalf of the South African Tamil Federation and its national affiliates, trustees and advisories, wish you a life of auspiciousness, filled with prosperity and happiness. May we collectively reach out to the less fortunate in our society in the compassionate spirit of caring and sharing.

Moral degeneration remains a serious concern in our country; so is sexual promiscuity in a society staggering under the scourge of HIV/Aids.

We need to reassess our moral behaviour in society and together help rebuild the traditional fibres of our age-old cultural and religious dimensions.

We applaud our many organisations for their reform initiatives: may you continue to engage in constructive, meaningful and healthy public debate.

It is the only way in which we can all contribute to a better place and future for all of us.

Thamizh New Year predicts optimism, prosperity and progressive change. We should try and live by the “Jaycee Creed”- as explained by this quote by C. William Brownfield – Wisconsin 1946:

“We believe... That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life (refers to a supreme omnipotence, not a specific deity); That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations (all men and women are created equal); That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise (all people should be allowed to use their skills and abilities to the limit in approving their economy); That government should be of laws rather than of men (no one should be above the law and the law should be the same for all people, no matter what status they hold in society); That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality (the personalities of all humans are unique and separate, which makes us different from other creatures of the world); And that service to humanity is the best work of life (life lived unselfishly grows richer, deeper, and fuller.)”

Like all harsh weather and stormy winds they surely will subside some time with calmness settling our uneasiness.

We therefore anticipate the future with confidence and look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie before us.

We look forward with spiritual hope, renewed vision and enthusiasm giving us a lead and positive direction in all matters, which we consider as relevant to the moral, sacred, educational, cultural and economic upliftment of the community we serve.

May Almighty Lord Shiva shower His spiritual influence of harmony, progressiveness and benevolence on our community in humility. May we achieve world peace by His divine grace.
