DJ Deon’s love serenade

- COLIN ROOPNARAIN

FOR ECR DJ Deon Govender, marrying the woman of his dreams meant that no matter how much money they spent, it would be more than worth it.

From a romantic proposal in Venice to an otherworldly wedding in Bali, the DJ made sure his bride, Talitha, would have an unforgettable day.

“We had been dating for 11 months and we were in Venice,” he told POST by phone. “I had planned for a band to serenade her and for someone to bring her 11 cards. Each card detailed a special little story about what made that month special – one for every month we had been together.

“The last card, however, had a special message. It said, ‘there’s just one more thing I want to ask you, especially now that we are in one of the most romantic places in the world’. “And she said yes!” With the proposal done, all that was left was for the couple to plan the wedding.

“At first we wanted to have a big wedding, but then we thought, if we go from 150 guests to just 50, we can really spend the money we had saved on something special.”

That something special turned out to be the high-end, ultra remote cliffside village of Pecatu, in southern Bali. The newly-built venue, called The One, at the famous The Edge resort, is 152m above the ground and has the Indian Ocean as its breathtaking backdrop.

“We got married standing on a pool with a glass cover,” he said. “And we were the first couple to be married at that venue.”

Deon and Talitha chose to marry on their two-year anniversary.

“She’s an amazing woman and I wanted her to have the most magical, unforgettable time – she’s worth it.”
