getting HOOKED

-

HUGE swells and bad weather made for difficult fishing conditions but there were still fish out there for the brave angler.

DEEP SEA:

There were reports from Sodwana and Maphelane of couta, tuna and a few snoek caught.

St Lucia was unusually quiet with just a few kob and snoek.

Umdloti was also rather quiet with just a few shoal-size couta coming out.

The sea off Durban produced some nice-size tuna at the beginning of last week. Boats launching at Umkomaas did not do too badly with daga salmon coming out on live and chokka baits. A few sailfish were also caught here.

ROCK AND SURF:

A decent number of edibles were caught in the Kosi Bay area. Stumpies, wave garrick, bonefish, snapper salmon and kob made the bulk of the catch. Baits used were chokka, sardine and live baits.

The stretch between Cape Vidal and Richards Bay was pretty quiet with only the occasional raggie making an appearance.

With rough seas battering the coastline, the best place to fish on the North Coast was Richards Bay harbour. Some big kob were landed by anglers sliding out whole chokka and mackerel baits. Guys spinning in the bay landed some fine kingies and sand gurnards.

Only a handful of fish were caught at Ballito. Grey sharks were caught in deeper waters while the edible side was made up of stumpies and kob.

Umdloti was also quiet with just the occasional grey and Zambezi shark caught in the evenings.

Fishing along Durban beaches was not too bad with quite a few fish coming out before the bad weather set in.

Amanzimtoti, Warner Beach, Illovo Beach and Karridene produced a fair number of edibles, including kob, garrick, stumpies and blacktails.

The stretch from Umgababa to Scottburgh produced only the occasional garrick and small sharks.

The stretch between Shelly Beach to Port Edward produced a few kob, garrick and the occasional kingie on spoon.

DURBAN HARBOUR:

The cold weather affected fishing in the harbour. However, a few decent-size kob and grunter were hooked in deeper waters. It is advisable to target kob with either live baits or chokka.

Until next week ... TIGHT LINES!
