Sights on Miss Supranational
MISS Catwalk, Miss Best Hair, Miss Best Talent … The list goes on.
Now Yajna Debideen wants to add Miss Supranational 2017 beauty pageant to her list of pageant spurs.
No stranger to the game, Debideen, 23, of Yellowwood Park, is the only KwaZuluNatal representative in the competition.
Now it’s a race to promote herself on social media, pin down sponsors and keep her body in shape before the big final in Pretoria in August.
The winner will progress to an international round in Poland in December.
Debideen told POST that being chosen for the top 10 came as a pleasant surprise.
“I never thought I would make the top 10, let alone be the only representative of my province. My previous pageant experience had all been in Eastern contests. This is my first attempt at a Western pageant.”
So far the contest has been based on submitted applications.
At the final, contestants will be pitted through interview processes and onstage events.
For Debideen, an audiologist currently doing her community service, preparation is key.
She plans to spend the next few months trying to maximise the number of points she can get even before she is under the spotlight.
“The contestant who raises the most sponsorships will win a Débutante Award and will receive three extra points, while the person who receives the most votes (on social media) will win the People’s Choice Award and that contestant will automatically make the top six.”
She said she was hard at work promoting herself online and has been sinking in the hours at the gym and eating healthily.
“Furthermore, I will practice my modelling and interview skills and groom myself for the pageant.”
Being a model was always Debideen’s dream. The public can vote for her by SMSing “Win Yajna” to 47439. SMSes cost R3.
