Healthier cooking with ayurveda

-

A GROUP of Indian chefs will come together at a three-day event in Kerala next month to talk about food and recipes that can contribute towards good health, wellness and healing.

The retreat, Healing Recipes – Back to Roots, will be held from July 3-6 at Kairali, The Ayurvedic Healing Village, at Palakkad, in Kerala.

Here, one will interact with ayurvedic doctors and chefs, attend specially-curated master classes, explore local cuisine, learn the trick of growing vegetables and spices organically, and master the art of making gourmet meals that are nourishing and indulging.

A preview for the event was held in the capital recently with Chef Manjit Singh Gill, Chef Vikas Seth and Gita Ramesh, an ayurveda expert IF YOU buy the right pair of leather shoes and look after them, they can last a long time, say experts.

Alberto Torresi director Ishaan Sachdeva and Voganow.com director Tabby Bhatia provide tips on how to go about finding the perfect pair.

One of the easiest ways to check the authenticity of leather is by pressing on it – if it is real, the texture will seem wrinkled and pulled. Also, genuine leather gives more of a natural and swanky touch.

Shoe fitting is another important factor. If the shoes are made by an experienced craftsman, they will fit you and the joint managing director of the Kairali Ayurvedic Group, giving a taste of what to expect from the event. They said people would realise how food could well and act as a part of your foot. Also the chances of it wrinkling or becoming misshapen are ruled out.

A perfect pair of shoes should have an extra-padded be their biggest investment for happiness and wellness.

Gill said: “Every climate has its own taste… just like there are six seasons, so are the tastes which are very important for every human being to experience.

“Food is like medicine, it heals the body from within. Hence, it is imperative that we revisit our approach to food, ingredients and cooking techniques. Healing Recipes – Back to Roots, for me, is a platform that will help you rethink food.”

Gill said salt should never be added to curd as it decreased its nutritional value and

people do not know the correct way in which olive oil should be used in cooking.

It must be cooked at proper temperature and, if possible, insole. An extra layer of cushioning between the feet and the shoe makes the grip comfortable and sturdy. Genuine leather in the insole and lining helps the shoes to revive for longer and also eliminates the chances of bad foot odour.

Leather shoes have a rich fragrance that fake leather doesn’t have. And they don’t smell like chemicals or plastic.

Examine the sole. There are varied types, ranging from rubber and leather to extra lightweight for longer walking hours. The soles should be stitched to the upper surface rather than glued. Genuine leather soles can be replaced one should consume only half a tablespoon of olive oil daily.

Ramesh, who also has a book called Healing Recipes – Back to Roots, said the event was a conscious effort at promoting food sustainability.

“It talks about how ageold philosophy and culinary practices still hold relevance in modern times and how ayurveda is directly linked with the healing of various diseases – be it through various ayurvedic practices, medicines or simply food.”

Curator Madhulika Dash said: “We have all grown up eating home-made food, but never realised that if cooked in a healthy way with farm fresh ingredients, it will lead to more good effects on health. Ayurveda enhances the quality of ingredients in food.” – IANS any time and can withstand wear and tear.

If the pair are handcrafted or hand-painted, look at the colour finishing and stitching details. The stitching should be neat and barely noticeable.

Check if the shoes have any kind of plastic coating or an extra unreal shine on them, which can feel like there is a layer between your touch and the material of the shoes.

This shiny coat applied to leather shoes loses the shine with growing usage and eventually peels off, taking the colour coat with it, which reduces the shoes’ life to one season. – IANS
