Mom with cancer relieved row over
A MOTHER living with cancer, who was allegedly told to “rot in jail” by her sister, says she is relieved their court matter has come to an end. She has no hard feelings towards her sibling and father.
Lizzy Ramsoroop, 47, said she would love her 74-year-old dad to visit her and her son, Niresh, 26, at their Phoenix home, which the son had purchased from her father.
Last month POST reported that a family dispute had arisen over the sale of the home. It had become so embittered that her younger sister, Coleen Govender, 42, had allegedly told Ramsoroop to “rot in jail with your cancer”.
Govender and their dad, Somasundram Thangavallo, had until Thursday to file opposing papers in the Durban High Court but had failed to do so.
A relieved Ramsoroop, who has stage four cancer, said she was glad the ordeal was over and she could now rest.
“When something worries a person, that person cannot eat or sleep. This was eating me up inside. I can’t even describe how I feel,” said Ramsoroop, who was represented by attorney Rajesh Hiralall.
Niresh said his grandfather and aunt had not attended court last week.
The respondents accused mother and son of cheating them out of a house that Thangavallo owned, Ramsoroop had said in her founding affidavit.
This was despite Thangavello selling the property to Niresh for R160 000 in December 2015, which title deeds attached to the court papers had confirmed.
Govender had told POST she and her dad had no interest in the house and had claimed the real problem was that the Ramsoroops did not pay the R160 000 to her father for the property.
She had claimed the title deeds were granted with no proof of payment.
Govender and her dad were not allowed to contact mother and son or make assertions to friends or family that the Ramsoroops had cheated them out of the house, according to the interim order.
Thangavello was indicted from demanding payment from the Ramsoroops or threatening them in any way if such payment was not made.
