Chelsea loses Terry, gains goalie
ENGLISH Premier League (EPL) club Aston Villa has announced the signing of Chelsea football club legend John Terry on a one-year contract.
The former Chelsea defender has made 492 appearances for Chelsea. During this time, his team won four EPL titles, five FA Cups, three football league cups and the Champions League, Europa League once each.
Terry was also included in the Fifa FifPro World XI for five consecutive seasons from 2005 to 2009 and was a part of the UEFA team of the year in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The England national said of joining Aston Villa: “I am delighted to join a club I have admired from afar for many years. I can’t wait to get started and look to help the squad achieve something special this season.”
MEANWHILE, Chelsea announced the signing of goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who spent the last three seasons at Manchester City.
Chelsea confirmed the signing in a statement on its website but did not specify the duration or value of the contract inked to the 35-year-old Argentinian goalkeeper, reports Efe.
“I am very happy to join Chelsea, the champions of England. I am looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success in the coming season,” Caballero said.
The English Premier League champions said Caballero would provide goal-keeping depth after Asmir Begovic left to go to Bournemouth.
Chelsea added that the Argentinian net minder had “a wealth of experience at the highest level”.
Caballero started his career at Boca Juniors in the Argentinian league before playing for Spanish clubs Elche and Malaga.
