Safa Chatsworth’s Women’s Day event

- POST REPORTER

SAFA Chatsworth observed Women’s Day by hosting a Women’s Day football tournament in the under 15 and senior divisions.

Women’s soccer has been growing steadily across the world, and Chatsworth is making every effort to keep pace with the developing sport.

Vice-chairperson of Safa Chatsworth and Women’s Soccer co-ordinator, Reishnee Munilall, said the tournament was a huge success.

“Our efforts to promote women’s soccer in Chatsworth have been met with enthusiasm. We had a huge turn-out of players and fans watching the game, and the display of football skill was awesome,” said Munilall.

“I have no doubt that we will produce a Banyana Banyana player soon.”

The Under 15 Final was an all Moorcross affair, and in a high-quality game Moorcross B beat the gutsy Moorcross A side 2-0. Classy defender Amaarah Sayed was the star player in this final.

The Senior Ladies’ final was contested by Montford Heights and Sunset United. In a close, tense final the game had to be decided by a dreaded penalty shootout, with Montford Heights winning by 4 goals to 2.

The star performers in the Ladies’ final were Daksha Ramrackan of Montford Heights and Nelisiwe Sibaya of Sunset United.

Munilall said the team of the day went to Manning Rangers Ladies for their outstanding overall contribution.

“Arusha Ramnarian and her team of women administrators are making a huge contribution to developing the game at grass roots level. We also need to thank our sponsors, Gift of the Givers, for providing hampers to all players as well as to every single female spectator present. The carnival atmosphere and camaraderie which prevailed on the day were truly inspiring,” said Munilall.
