Families distraught after deaths of 4 friends

- CHARLENE SOMDUTH

FOUR friends, including two brothers, died in a vehicle accident on Phoenix Highway on Saturday night, which caused the siblings’ devastated dad to have a heart attack.

While Suren Karamchand, 51, has since been discharged, he and and his wife Lisa, 41, are struggling to come to terms with losing their children, Threshen, 23, a financial adviser and part-time DJ, and Nikhiel, 17, a Grade 11 pupil.

The brothers and their friends Anil Muganlall, 20, and Nathaniel Peter, 17, also in Grade 11, were on their way to Rocca Bar, a nightclub where Threshen was the resident DJ.

They were travelling in Threshen’s Toyota Corolla when the vehicle overturned.

The brothers’ cousin, Elisha Naraidu, described the siblings as loving and respectable.

“Threshen loved music and was known as DJ Shen Kay. His ultimate dream was to become a pilot and he was working on getting his pilot licence.”

Nikhiel loved to cook and had aspirations of being a chef.

Muganlall’s mother, Melanie Muganlall, had passed the accident scene while returning home from work, unaware her son was in the crashed car.

His father, Sewbruth Muganlall, said his son had just started work at the new Cornubia Mall and he was very excited.

“This was his stepping stone to achieving better things in life.”

Nathaniel’s sister, Reanne Peter, said she and her parents, Matthew, 38, and Vanessa, 37, were not coping with the tragedy.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
