Pillay didn’t deserve to die that way

-

A RETIRED professional couple, a seven-bedroomed house and a pair of luxury vehicles caught the evil eyes of a bunch of ruthless and callous killers as they recently stabbed former school principal Gona Pillay to death and left her husband for dead.

Mongrels who picked up the wrong scent of money.

The bounty they sought was not there, so in a fit of apocalyptic rage and possibly to leave no trace of identification, they sought to eliminate the victims brutally, not leaving room for consequences should there be survivors.

And so Mr Loga Pillay survived and his account and description of events has resulted in two swift arrests.

What kind of culture will breed such beasts?

What kind of womb would nourish such foetal demons?

A loving couple, they worked as educators all their lives and had earned their retirement to enjoy in the autumn of their lives. But in a moment of weakness their privacy was invaded by some marauding basilisks.

A sapient couple by community standards, they were the voice of the human spirit – full of hope, love and intelligence – resilient by nature and boundless in their potential to serve.

Mrs Pillay was a warm breeze making everyone’s life she touched, feel better.

The huge attendance at the funeral and emotionally-charged eulogies bear unparalleled testament to her standing in society.

This was supposed to be a land of miracles where evil was brought to light and purged, where the most pernicious flaws within us could be made right and where generous liberty and safety, fulfilled its promise.

But sadly, senseless predators stalk our suburbs as we become virtual prisoners in our own homes.

Yeats said it long ago – things fall apart!

It is the human version of entropy that powers the universe as it ticks towards cold death. Just as some people always built, nested and planned; there are also those who serve the function of chaos – stealing, tearing down, maiming and killing.

It is a paranoid view but if you let your guard down, it can cost you your life.
