Getting to know Ajay Sethi

With the T20 Global League on everyone’s lips, the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars franchise will be the first opponents for the Durban Qalandars at Kingsmead in November.

The Eastern Cape side got to learn about their owner, Ajay Sethi, by bowling him a few bouncers, even a no-ball. This is how he responded.

Q: Where were you born and where are you based today?

A: I was born to a middle-class family in Dharamshal­a, India, and today I am based in Emirates Hills, Dubai.

Q: Apart from cricket, what are some of your other interests?

A: Some of my other interests include automotive, real estate, internet, television, radio, art, golf and tennis.

Q: Are you married, and do you have any children?

A: Yes, I am married and I have three children.

Q: Have you invested in any other sports?

A: I have invested in the St Lucia Zouks, who play in the Caribbean Premier League. I also have a tennis franchise called the Singapore Slammers and a 900-acre golf course developmen­t in India.

Q: What are your objectives for the Nelson Mandela Bay Stars franchise?

A: We want to compete and win alongside the people of the Bay and be a part of making the metro a global name – as it should be.

Q: Can you talk about the naming of the team as Nelson Mandela Bay Stars?

A: We have made history by being the first team to be named after the iconic politician and that adds to the excitement.

Q: What do you think of St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth as a venue?

A: I am excited about being involved with a venue which has a history stretching over more than 150 years.
