A birthday bash fit for a queen!

- JOLENE MARRIAH-MAHARAJ

WHILE most women shy away from announcing their ages, Durban socialite and businesswoman Sorisha Naidoo has never felt more fabulous at 40.

Speaking to POST this week, after an island getaway with her family and closest friends, and a birthday bash at the Beverley Hills Hotel in which she was gifted a sports car, Naidoo said 40 felt amazing.

“It’s like I have a brand new life. I have so much energy and anyway, you are only as old as you feel in your mind,” said Naidoo, a mother of two.

At a recent pre-celebratory birthday dinner in Mauritius, a barefooted Naidoo told her 13 guests that her husband, business tycoon Vivian Reddy, could finally say his wife was “40-something”.

Reddy surprised Naidoo with a designer handbag on the morning of her birthday on Saturday, so when she later got the keys to a special edition Aston Martin, she was gobsmacked.

“Viv is a James Bond fan, so I guess it was the ideal car,” she said.

She will only take her new wheels for a spin after a prayer is conducted.

Naidoo, who says she often spends her days in jeans and sneakers, said unwinding in Mauritius with her husband, children, aged 7 and 9, parents and friends meant the world to her.

She referred to Saturday’s bash, in which the who’s who attended, including deputy mayor Fawzia Peer and former eThekwini speaker Logie Naidoo, as being a simple affair.

“I kept the formalities brief and spent time talking to guests. I generally would never have the time to do this. So it was really just casual and fun.”

The business-minded Naidoo is now putting all her effort into opening a new restaurant in uMhlanga.

If you’re thinking of going to the venue in a cocktail dress, think again. It’s a shisa nyama eatery called 4320. And no, it’s not the year it’s going to open, but uMhlanga’s postal code.

When asked why she opted to open a shisa nyama eatery, Naidoo said fine dining was not accessible to everyone.

“I wanted a place where everyone could enjoy good food, at good prices, in a chilled environment.”
