‘I bring you good news’

- BISHOP JOHNNY FRANK New Life Christian Church, Silverglen, Chatsworth

THE biblical account of the announcement of Christ’s birth is such an appropriate message for the time we are living in. Luke 2:8-14 says: “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord’.”

As the world celebrates the birth of Jesus this Christmas season, we must be mindful of the angelic proclamation made to all mankind some 2000 years ago saying, “good news… great joy… for all the people… a Saviour has been born to you.”

The birth of Christ was not the arrival of just another religious figure. The whole world celebrates Jesus’ birth because He was born as the saviour of all mankind – irrespective of race, religion or creedal differences.

And if there’s ever a time when humanity needs a saviour, it is now!

Without Christ, our societies have become overrun with every kind of evil. We have poor governance and a vacuous deficit of leadership. Chaos, crime and lawlessness have permeated every sphere of life.

Ours is a hopeless and materialistic world, driven by fear. There seems to be an increasing degradation with every subsequent generation. Is there any hope for this world?

Our Creator in His great love and compassion for humanity sent His son Jesus Christ. He came to save the world from the sin and evil we all carry within.

He didn’t come to start another religion in a world already burdened with so many religions. His birth is the answer to this world’s maladies.

In Jesus Christ, divinity became clothed with humanity. Only by receiving Jesus Christ as the gift of God, can we in our humanity be clothed with divinity. Only by receiving Christ is there any hope for mankind. This is the reason for the joy that surrounds Christ’s birth. It is a joy that materialism cannot bring. Only through Christ can there be peace in this world.

This Christmas, as you receive Him into your heart as your saviour, may you too find true peace and joy.
