- CHANELLE LUTCHMAN

SIX people, including three women and a minor, were arrested after drugs valued at R100 000 were allegedly found in a Chatsworth flat.

Sheldon Lucas, who was charged with possession of 1 200 capsules of heroin, appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court recently, while his co-accused, Akash Indhel, Shireen Govender, Kasthuri Pillay, Deshnee Maistry and a 16-year-old minor appeared later that same day.

Lucas was released on R8 000 bail and the others on R1 000 each.

The accused, aged between 16 and 52, were arrested on Sunday and charged with dealing and manufacturing drugs.

Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said they had received information about illicit drug activities at a flat in Silver Heights Drive in Westcliff.

While searching the flat, they found clear packets of heroin in the bedroom, packets of capsules with heroin powder in the kitchen and a measuring scale under the sink, she said.

Five people were arrested and a sixth suspect, allegedly found with heroin, was arrested outside.

A source said that, when police arrived, one of the accused refused to let them in, claiming the door was locked and there was no key.

“They then had to break open the door and search the property.”

Gwala said the estimated street value of the recovered drugs was R100 000. The case was adjourned to March.
