PERVAAN PILLAY, 18, of Hilton, who attained 7 As, including one for information technology, is set on studying chemical engineering at the University of Pretoria.
“I have always loved mathematics, and science and engineering seemed the obvious choice.”
He said he looked forward to starting anew in Pretoria, which was known for its jacaranda trees.
SAYUG MOODLEY, 17, of Mountain Rise, who attained 7 As in his trial exam, hopes to study medicine at the University of Pretoria.
“In 2010, my mother was permanently injured while giving birth to my youngest sister. This injury changed my view on the medical field as I witnessed the difficulties my mother went through as a disabled woman.
“I would like to study medicine and eventually go into medical research, as I hope to better the lives of individuals living with disabilities.”
He added that his structured routine and great support system from his parents and grandparents did not allow for many difficulties and that he was well prepared.
“I am excited about university and being more independent. This is an exciting new chapter in my life.”
SHAILIN PILLAY, 17, of Athlone, who attained 7As in his trial exam, is hoping to achieve the same when the final results are released.
He has been accepted to study medicine at UCT and was provisionally accepted at Wits and the University of Pretoria.
“I decided to go to UCT as I have family in Cape Town and most of my friends will also be attending the same university. UCT is also recognised as one of the best medical facilities in South Africa.”
Hailing from a family of doctors, Shailin said he knew he would also follow along the same path.
