-

SA Facebook users woke up to sad news of the death of legendary actress Sridevi on Sunday. They shared their sentiments…

■ Vinay Panday: A true legend of our times is no more. Sridevi, a Padma Shri recipient, has passed on. Unrivalled by her passion and versatility, she was the quintessential heroine. She was an endearing superstar of the silver screen who has left an indelible mark on Tamil, Telugu and Hindi cinema. The multiple award-winning and nominated actress will be remembered for her amazing performances in blockbuster movies such as Himmatwala, Chandni and Lamhe. She was exemplified by films such as Chaalbaaz, Naagina and Khuda Gawah. Referred to by the western media as the “Meryl Streep of India” she showed her acting range in films such as English Vinglish and Mom. She has left a legacy that will always be at the forefront of quality celluloid and entertainment. Her passing has left a deep void among Bollywood and Indian film industry fans alike. Gone way before her time. We salute arguably one of the greatest actresses in the history of Indian cinema.

■ Lubna Nadvi: As a fan of Indian cinema, I am really saddened to hear about the sudden passing of one of the most versatile actresses of the Indian film industry… Sridevi. As a women’s rights activist I found her last film, Mom, to be a very powerful commentary on how a mother does everything to protect her child from harm.

■ Rajendran Thangavelu Govender: Here in India everyone is in a state of shock with the passing of Sridevi. A talented and beautiful actress, who never aged. Sridevi was an incredibly talented and versatile actress whose vast body of work spanned a range of genres and languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
