‘Black Magic’ man comes to town

-

LEGENDARY MexicanAmerican musician Carlos Santana, who pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American jazz, will be performing in good ol’ Durban during his three-city tour of the country.

The Divination World Tour, courtesy of Big Concerts, will kick off at the Cape Town Stadium on April 11, followed by the Durban ICC on April 13 and the Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg a day later.

Santana, 70, became famous in the late 1960s with his band Santana. Their first Top 10 hit, Evil Ways, stayed on the Billboard chart for two years and was soon followed by two more classics and Billboard number one albums – Abraxas (with songs Oye Como Va and Black Magic Woman) and Santana III (No One to Depend On and Everybody’s Everything).

Santana has won 10 Grammy Awards, including a record-tying nine for a single project with the 1999 blockbuster Supernatural.

Among many honours, Santana received Billboard Latin Music awards, a Lifetime Achievement honour as well as a Billboards Century Award.

Having sold over 100 million records to date, Santana has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is listed in the top 20 greatest guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

In 2013 he was the recipient of the 2013 Kennedy Center Honours Award and is currently headlining at a multi-year residency at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.
