Celebrating the gift of eternal life

- JANINE MOODLEY POST

THE sounds of Easter celebrations rang true and loud at meeting halls of local churches as Christians celebrated the death and resurrection of their lord and saviour, Jesus Christ, this past weekend.

Congregations across the country could be seen observing the auspicious weekend through song, prayer, worship and meditation.

Seelan Kistnan, of Christ Church Newlands, spoke to

after attending the early morning Good Friday service at his church on Earlsfield Drive in Newlands West. He said Easter was a glorious and special time for every Christian to look upon God and thank Him for his goodness and love.

“We thank Jesus for dying for us and rising again for our justification. He gave his very life for us and it is important that we take a moment to remember His grace and plan of salvation for the world. My family and I celebrated through Christian fellowship and kneeling before the Lord in repentance.”

Sashen Padayachee, 21, a former Hindu from Briardale, said Easter was a personal reflection of how far he had come in his faith.

“As a convert from a different religious background, I have come to the understanding that I am a sinner and that Christ died for my sins,” he said.

“I attend church every year during Easter to thank Jesus for His sacrificial love and to worship Him for dying on the cross for me. He showed me that there is life after death and He saved me from eternal death through acceptance and belief.”

Padayachee said apart from attending services, he used the time to meet family and enjoy the festivities.
