- POST REPORTER

POST, South Africa’s leading news brand around the Indian cultural identity, was presented with the prestigious Ammen award for excellence in media on Friday.

The award was presented by Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and Seelan Achary, chairperson of the Shri Mariammen Temple Society at an event attended by hundreds of people.

The paper’s editor, Krisendra Bisetty, accepted the award on behalf of his dedicated team.

POST was lauded as a “dynamic newspaper” that was the voice and heart of the community.

The paper was urged to continue to build a “strong and educated readership in our fledgling democracy”.

In his acceptance speech, Bisetty said the award meant a great deal to the paper, which had highlighted the community’s trials and tribulations as well as its successes and achievements since 1955.

“Our unique content is sought after by 300000 readers from all corners of this country and even abroad,” Bisetty said.

“We are, as one pointed out, a manual for daily living, providing not just the latest news, but information on how we can all become better citizens.

“We have content that tries to keep our various cultures alive – helping to trace your roots and reach for the stars,” he said.

Last year POST received the Gopio international community service award.

Fourteen individuals and organisations received Ammen awards on Friday in various categories, including education and religion.

The recipients will be profiled in POST in the upcoming weeks.
