30 years on, still going strong
THIRTY years ago the now late past district governor Siva Naidoo and a group of dedicated members started the ball rolling which gave rise to the Rotary Club of Chatsworth.
And now, three decades later, the club continues to make a difference in the communities it serves.
The rotary club recently celebrated this milestone event at the Chatsworth Hospice.
“Rotarians are people from the community, just ordinary people, who do extraordinary things by giving time to service through their vocations and professional skills.
“It is hard work demanding a fair degree of dedication, commitment and time…
“The feeling of gratification (you get) by serving communities far outweighs any stressful situations and a lot of fun and excitement prevails,” said the club’s public relations officer, Dr Ansuyah Moodley.
“Joining in the celebration were two charter members, past presidents Nam Panday and Malan Moodley, who still inspire and mentor our powerful team of members.
“We are also grateful to our Anns (wives of the rotarians), Prelene Naidoo, Rekha Panday and Lee Moodley for being pillars of strength for the women to continue with the good work of the Anns Club, headed by current president Merasha Moodley.”
Club president Eugene Moodley thanked the rotary team for their zeal.
He hoped the team would continue to work with a positive spirit for another 30 years and beyond.
The club has 27 members who have worked on community outreach projects including: Unite Against Hunger, wheelchair, school uniform and bursary projects and blood drives.
