Liverpool eye the silverware
LIVERPOOL FC look to take one step forward towards their first trophy in six years when they face AS Roma in Wednesday night’s Champions League semi-final at the Stadio Olimpico.
Jürgen Klopp’s men claimed the advantage going into the second leg as they won the first leg 5-2 in a thrilling encounter at Anfield last week.
Damir Skomina of Slovenia will take charge of the second leg in Rome, with the Reds having a 100% losing record under him.
Nevertheless, Liverpool have been in immaculate form in the Uefa Champions League, having found the back of the net 44 times in 13 games.
Klopp’s men require just one more goal to equal the all-time record of the Catalan giants set in 2000, when they scored 45 times in 16 games to make history with the most goals in a single Uefa Champions League season.
However, AS Roma were able to clinch a ticket to the semi-final when they thrashed Barcelona FC in a nail-biting quarter-final at home, which ended 4-4 on aggregate.
Because of their single away goal in a 3-1 defeat at Camp Nou, I Giallorossi went through as a result of the infamous away-goal rule.
Liverpool FC fanatic Jayren Soobramoney (28) of Westville North believes the Reds have what it takes to secure a place in the final.
“Liverpool haven’t exhibited this intensity of football since their 2005 Champions League victory, 13 years ago. With Salah, Firmino and Sae showing good chemistry and delightful form, they have what it takes to earn a chance to be the champions of Europe,” said Soobramoney.
Kick-off is at 8.45pm and you can catch the action on SuperSport 3.
