Bachchan movie one for the ages

-

MOVIE REVIEW: 102 NOT OUT RATING: 8/10 REVIEWER: Fakir Hassen

T(Rishi Kapoor) is a retired, widowed teacher whose only son has gone to America and rarely, if ever, makes contact.

Wallowing in his misery, Babulal is stunned when Dattatraya decides he will become the first father in the world to send his son to an old age home.

If he wants to remain in the family home instead, Babulal has to meet some challenges set by his father, many of which involve him deviating from his everyday, humdrum routine.

But, as he goes about reluctantly completing the tasks, Babulal realises the aim is to get him to see the real meaning of life, rather than just accepting that his life is now limited.

The tale of the two old men is related largely through a family friend, Dhiru (Jimit Trivedi), a simpleton with a penchant for honesty that shows up the trickery of others.

Veteran actors Amitabh and Rishi, coming together again almost a quarter century after they were last seen in Ajooba, are both superb in their roles.

The absence of any female co-star is not felt at all in this film, further highlighting its unique theme.

Sons and daughters should go see this one with their dads, and their own children. The film is currently on the big screen.
