Plea for help in finding missing Casey
A CHATSWORTH couple are having sleepless nights after their beloved pit bull was stolen, allegedly by a dog fighting ring operating in uMlazi.
Since last month Kelly Thaver and her husband, Deshan, have been searching uMlazi and other townships in Durban with the hope of finding their 3-year-old Casey.
“On April 28, we arrived home and Casey was nowhere to be found. There were no signs that she had escaped. We did, however, notice a spike on our driveway gate had been removed,” said Kelly.
The frantic couple searched their neighbourhood and a neighbour informed them that he had seen a blue van, the occupants of which had taken Casey away in chains.
“I was beside myself. I immediately knew she had been stolen for dog fighting because we heard of other families from our area who went through the same thing. Fortunately for them, their dogs were found.”
The 24-year-old administrator said her husband viewed CCTV footage captured from a neighbouring home and had seen three men steal Casey.
“They were in a blue van and carried Casey over the gate where the spike was missing. They chained her and put her into the van. She was calm and submissive. She may have been drugged.”
The couple and a relative searched for her in KwaMashu and uMlazi.
“It has been almost two months and despite our searches and posters offering a reward, we’re still hitting dead ends. I can’t imagine what she must be going through being away from home. I keep thinking about the conditions she is living under and if she is still alive.”
Kelly said despite their pleas to police for help, nothing had been done. “To them these are just dogs and they make no effort to help us.”
