NAMITA NATALIE: Regardless of where you reside, crime is all round. You’re not safe at home, nor are you safe on the road. What a beautiful country without natural disasters, but being ruined by crime.

KIRAN MEGNATH: Time to stand and fight, and protect ourselves, our property and our loved ones. LEE-ANN MICHAEL: We will never feel safe. Sending my boys to school has now even become scary.

BHANA MORAR : The actions of the community is right! We have been too silent against these horrid crimes. We must intensify protest action against such criminals! We controlled our streets before, we can control our streets again!

RAMITHA SIRIPARSAD: Really sad… May this family be given the space they now need to deal with their loss. The minister should ensure that the death penalty is brought back. His visit (sadly) cannot bring back an innocent life.

LEVII ROSHANLALL: I cannot understand how the value of a car or possessions are worth more than a human life. How can this person enjoy the same rights as the rest of us? I also recall a home invasion where the robbers threatened to microwave a baby, and another where a family was offloading their car to go to the beach and the robbers wanted to shoot his 3-year-old. I am the dad of two girls, 9 and 5. These stories terrify me. What the heck is going on with the human race? Not even animals do this to each other. CHARLOTTE PADARATH: It’s about time we also behave in this manner. That’s the only thing the government understands and knows how to communicate. Enough is enough, really. We are not even safe in our houses. We are being killed for our hard-earned possessions. Jesus, I can’t even wear my wedding rings, watch or bangles. I must wear fake stuff. No man, this is ridiculous. When the mayor gets hijacked in Midrand, we have it all over news and the car is being sought.

CHARLOTTE PILLAY: If the people of Chatsworth did not protest the way they did, standing together and fighting for justice, would this be such a major thing to Mr Cele? It really is amazing that he showed up – I salute him. But did it have to take a protest to get crimes like this taken seriously?

SANDRA DESAI: When will this brutal killings stop? Her life was taken in a flash. God is ultimate. Is there hope for this country? We are living in fear. How many more lives have to be lost? Safety and security minister, where are you? There are brutal murders every day in this country.
