Reunion of Clairwood residents

-

IN A bid to strengthen the bond between past and current residents of Clairwood, south of the Durban, the Clairwood Roots Reunion committee will be hosting their annual family fun day and night extravaganza on the Clairwood High School grounds on Saturday, June 30.

The event, which is themed “A trip down memory lane”, will boast a wide variety of activities for young and old.

Committee chairperson Siva Naidoo said the aim of the event was to reunite and reignite the bonds that many who had left the once-beautiful suburb had shared, as well as to celebrate the success many have achieved.

“Many of those who left because of the stagnation of their dwelling by the city council went on to become successful professionals, including politicians, businessmen, entrepreneurs, musicians and playwrights.

“We also cannot forget the memories made while growing up in the once-vibrant area, where we witnessed a throng of football fans traversing every road leading to the South Coast grounds, the burn in your nostrils from the masala being roasted at Osmans Spiceworks and the aroma of delicious cakes in trays waiting to be loaded on to the vans for delivery from Ali’s Bakery. These are just some of the fondest memories many will reminisce about,” Naidoo said.

He added that the event had an exciting line-up of entertainment, with bands including the Men in Black and Naked Truth to keep the crowd enthralled, as well the Nagara Group.

There will also be a “sari queen” contestant , with thousands of rand in prizes to be given away and, to end the night, a spectacular fireworks display.
