Power couple have eyes on the prize

- CHANELLE LUTCHMAN

SOULMATES Pashi Reddy and Kamisha Naidoo believe their love for each other, their family, spirituality and food make them a power couple to reckon with. The duo are competing on South Africa’s newest reality TV show, My Kitchen Rules South Africa (MKRSA), where amateur foodies compete in teams of two for a cash prize.

They recently impressed fellow competitors with their Indian-themed dishes and 33-year-old Reddy, of Kloof, said they planned on pulling out all the stops to win.

“Viewers can expect us to push the envelope. We are risk takers, so innovation and creativity are always key ingredients in our dishes.”

Naidoo added that they were “unapologetically ourselves” and were a “strong dynamic team” constantly learning to adapt.

“We are competitive and passionate, so failure is not an option. We have one real opportunity to showcase our talents and our dreams and, while we may come across as hard, we understand what is needed to win a competition like MKRSA. Sometimes you have to fail a few times before you get your shot, but with perseverance it will happen.”

Naidoo, 27, of Yellowwood Park, added: “Expect bold flavours with exotic twists and menus that change the perception of what the humble home cook is capable of.”

The couple, who met five years ago, said their paths had often crossed, but they only got chatting by chance online.

“And we realised we had a lot in common. We were the same soul in two different bodies,” said Naidoo, who is completing a degree in educational psychology.

Reddy, the chief executive of Isithembiso Procurement, said they entered due to their love of food. “Our love for food and our passion to showcase our talents were the driving force behind entering.”

Their favourite meal is a home-cooked

My Kitchen Rules South Africa. Durban curry.

“We love all food. As long as it is packed with flavour and texture, we will be happy… but if we had to chose one, it has to be a home-cooked Durban curry, without a doubt,” said Reddy. Naidoo said their aim was to show viewers that with hard work and a thick skin, dreams could be turned into a reality. The competition started with 10 teams and nine remain. MKRSA
