The DA simply can’t deliver

- VENOLIN GOVENDER Pietermaritzburg

THE housing issue has become a real urgency in our country, as we see the proposed bill of land expropriation without compensation fuelling land grabs.

Yes, there is an urgent need for housing across all races, as this is clearly and sorely much needed. Our Indian communities have been housed in apartheid land segregation and given homes, yet it failed to look at the growing population of the Indian community.

Today we have more than 70% of Indian families renting from landlords and some, who are not fortunate, reside in shack dwellings. Yes the shack dwelling is a reality not only within the black population, but also in the Indian population of South Africa.

It is also a fact that unemployment is among the highest in the Indian communities. Due to the equity policy, Indians get sidelined due to racial quotas in employment, as well as admission into universities. For the past 20 years, the Indian communities have voted for the DA to be their ward councillors and representatives. Up until today, I have clearly not seen any change or homes been built by the DA and its constituents. The DA has never tackled local issues but rather utilise the Indian vote to gain more power.

The DA boasts of the City of Cape Town and its governance. It is due to the coloured voter that they have won. Yet we clearly see they want Patricia de Lille gone. It seems the DA misrepresents themselves, as they are not democratic at all. They cannot deliver housing to the people and that’s clear. They had 20 years to do it and they could not. The Indian community requires urgent housing.

Issues as this are an old song yet promises are made on the election manifesto by the DA. Now let us axe them as they have done nothing for the people they serve. Let us see them for what they truly are. They must be held accountable for this as they are voted in and, mind you, earn a fat salary. The party simply cannot deliver what they promise; it’s all about fault finding and witch-hunting the ANC.

The Indian community must see the DA for what it is and not be fooled. We have seen a good change come about with President Cyril Ramaphosa and good change in ministers who work, like Bheki Cele.

Let us vote for a party that is in power and has the power to change lives. The Indian communities always looked at the ANC in a bad way due to corruption. Today we seeing good ministers and great change. Let us vote for a party who can deliver houses.
