Act on land grabs

- ROBIN NAIDOO Phoenix

PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa must take full responsibility and make an urgent announcement on TV, radio and in the press, in all official languages especially in isiZulu, that expropriation without compensation is not law in South Africa as yet.

That only the government will have that power as South Africa belongs to all its people irrespective of race. They as our leaders must instruct their chiefs and subjects: hands off Indian, coloured and whites’ land and houses. This must be done in light of recent and continuous land grabs and potential future attempts at occupying or stealing land that belongs to its legitimate owners, being white, Indian and coloured. Why must Indian victims hand over their legally-bought land, houses and farms to African land thieves?

Why must Indian victims run away or be relocated by the ANC-run eThekwini Municipality?

Is this not what the whites did to us during the Group Areas Act – forced evictions?

You never hear of Indians, coloureds or whites under ANC rule grabbing land in uMlazi, Soweto or uMtata from Africans and chasing them away.

Indians were also victims under apartheid. African officers in the SAPS and Metro Police must stop assisting these lawless land-grabbing criminals because we view this as racism, prejudice and lawlessness from our so called protectors.

African SAPS officers asking Indian farmers to show proof of their title deeds while African land grabbers are destroying their sugar cane crop in Verulam is an insult to them.

The government and the SAPS are wasting our time and money if we have to apply for urgent court orders. Make some examples. Show us true leadership and fairness. Protect our families, neighbours and properties. Now is the time to act.
