Valab to walk his talk
INSPIRED by the tenacity of Nelson Mandela to educate and create a better world for children, a Gauteng teacher will attempt a city-to-city walk from Johannesburg to Durban on Thursday to raise muchneeded funds to aid the pupils at his school, St James Preparatory.
Sanskrit teacher, Jayant Valab, 55, of Lenasia, will brave the cold and walk about 720km. He is expected to arrive in Durban in early September.
“There is a need for every child in society to have a sound, profound education. My mission is to help children grow into men or women of great character, who will be able serve and nourish their communities with greater knowledge.
“It is also important that we as adults dedicate our time, give attention and care for the current generation as they are our future. Humanity owes a child the best it can offer.” Sanskrit teacher Jayant Valab will commence his walk from Johannesburg to Durban in a bid to raise funds for his school.
The father of two said the funds, which he hoped to secure from donations, would be used toward providing bursaries for disadvantaged pupils.
Asked how he prepared for the journey, he said he joined Run/Walk for Life last June and had been coached by a professional trainer.
“The Run/Walk for Life programme teaches you the importance of exercising, eating and resting correctly as well as being motivated to go out there and achieve your goals.”
He said he was excited about the venture and hoped to inspire others to pursue their goals.
“I also hope to spread the word that there should be ‘more action and less talk’. I hope many people will support this cause. “
Valab will set off from the school at 8am. He will be accompanied by a support car. Donations can be deposited into the school’s bank account.
