Celebrate Islam’s patriarchy

-

A RESPONSE to Yogin Devan’s column “Ball and chain of patriarchy” (POST, August 1-5).

It is with pride that we say that patriarchy is the divine system created by God for Muslim society. It is a system which we cherish and guard.

Defeminised, masculine women, who follow in the footsteps of the immoral women’s liberation movement of the libertine West, with all their shameless audacity and aid from brittle academics, will not achieve their pernicious objective of destroying Islam’s patriarchal system.

The Islamic patriarchal system is a wonderful system of governance, in which the man is the dominant figure. The women are not deprived of anything. The system ensures their chastity, modesty, womanhood, motherhood, wifehood, morality, spirituality and security.

Mr Devan is totally unqualified to set his foot in the domain of our Islamic matters.

His utterings: “Saudi man divorced his wife for forgetting to offer the main dish”, “Divorced his wife on their honeymoon for wearing foot bangles”, cannot be seen as a failure of our religion of Islam.

Elsewhere Mr Devan wrote that “new translations suggest…” Here Mr Devan is hallucinating. Our Holy Qur’an has not changed in its wording or translations for over 1 400 years.

In Mr Devan’s last line he appeals to “real men to help women break free from the shackles of patriarchy”.

No, no Mr Devan, this is an old worn out propaganda tactic against Islam, which is given a facelift every now and again, among them this issue of the status of women in Islam.

They say that women are oppressed and are considered inferior to men. Nothing could be further from the truth. Islam has given the highest position to womankind on Earth.

What has Western “civilisation” given to women? Prostitution, escort agencies, massage parlours, lesbianism, illegal mistresses, nudity, shamelessness… the list goes on. Western culture has made women the cheapest commodity on Earth – from a car to a packet of sweets – everything sells with the picture of a semi nude woman.

How cheap and despised is this woman on show! On the contrary, the Muslim woman in Islam is a precious jewel – not to be viewed by all and sundry. Unfortunately the Western media have never given Islam a fair chance. Just as how Mr Devan’s column shows, every opportunity is utilised to blaspheme the true Islamic point of view.

So once again my appeal to Mr Devan is that he must steer clear from our Islamic matters.
