RESERVOIR HILLS GETS CLEANED UP

(It took a heated argument with eThekwini deputy mayor Fawzia Peer and several emails to the municipality for Durban Solid Waste to clean up Shannon Drive, which was polluted with rotting garbage, faeces and urine.)

Sabashnee Ronell Moodley: And how eThekwini won five awards just a few days ago for service delivery still amazes me.

Nirvani Pillay: Sometimes great lengths are required. I recently had to go to enormous lengths to get the Johannesburg City Power to address a serious situation in my complex. It should not be so difficult to access decision-makers and people, who are actually going to address our issues that impact our lives. The government has to address the serious bottlenecking at ground level, and the bureaucracy.

Allan Diplall: Quarry Road west in Clare Estate needs a clean up.

Rodney Nagoor: That’s what happens when government is not interested. People go and mess everywhere.

Santa Das: Yes! Clare Estate needs a very big clean up! ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY APOLOGISES OVER BILLING ERRORS (If you received your monthly electricity bill and found that instead of your “average” amount, you’re now being charged some ridiculously exorbitant amount, don’t panic).

Pritha Sajanlall Boodoo: I am sitting with a bill of R140 000.

Melvan Govender: I paid mine. I was told there was nothing they could do. There is a difference when it comes to winter, but it’s still well within the range. Tried to explain how averages work. I even said that I might have an electrical leak. She thought I was serious. Anyway, it’s ridiculous the number of people who are held at the municipality’s mercy. Forcing consumers to sign credit agreements. Did I mention that I helped in the development of this billing system?

Rithesh Ramahsarai: They are too lazy to go out like before and read people’s meters. Now they estimate every month, so it doesn’t matter if you are trying to save power, because you will be charged the same. Guys, the card system, I think, will do the job.

Fee Khan: All of us need to get together in Durban and not pay for one month. I’m sure they cannot disconnect all of us. They're robbing us big time.

Elishdelosh Ramsamy Chetty: The people working in the billing department need to be held accountable.
