Heritage Day with Kanika in SA

- CHANELLE LUTCHMAN

INDIAN singer Kanika Kapoor, pictured, who was recently invited by Prince Charles to perform at Buckingham Palace, will be heading for Durban for a Heritage Day concert with a difference.

And that’s not all. There will be a live onstage interview with Indian composer, singersongwriter and music producer extraordinaire AR Rahman, who will be visiting Durban for the second time.

“There are various wow factors involved and, of course, we cannot reveal everything but AR Rahman will be there and we are going to do an interview session with him. Just who is interviewing him, I cannot reveal yet, but it’s going to be big,” said the show’s director and actor Prabhu Nepaul.

The show will take place at the ICC on September 21 from 8pm.

“With September being Heritage Month, and to commemorate this year being Nelson Mandela’s 100th birth anniversary, Kanika will spend the Friday morning feeding 100 underprivileged children in Durban and later that evening, fans can catch her singing the South African national anthem during the show,” said Nepaul, who was raised in Chatsworth.

Nepaul, of the HCorpGroup said, prior to the show, Lotus FM would do an outside broadcast and when patrons entered the venue’s foyer, they could look forward to a magical set-up.

“We want the venue and show to look and feel as interactive as ever. It’s going to have the experience of being at a film studio in Los Angeles or New York City. For the first time, we will also have people performing gumboot dancing. This is going to be a huge production.”

Kanika is known for hit songs, including Baby Doll, Lovely and Chittiyan Kalayiaan. Tickets are available at Computicket.
