Jozies does Durban in two-day fest

DURBAN Day in Jozies, a two-day festival aimed at uniting the large number of ex-Durbanites now living and working in Joburg, will take place at the Carnival City Sun Park on September 8 and 9.

The event, hosted by Bravo Entertainm­ent, will include the biggest bunny chow contest in Jozi and a thunee competitio­n with a cash prize of R20 000.

A kids’ play zone will include inflatable­s, paintball, pony rides, an Xbox station and a reptile show.

September 8 sees the Blast from the Past live music festival from 6.30pm. It will feature the legendary Steve Fataar of The Flames; 13-yearold guitar maestro Saiyan Naidoo and his seven-piece band The Tyles; and iconic ’80s group Tomorrow’s World, who produced the club hit Kalimba Party.

The audience will be taken on a magical musical journey with tributes to artists and groups of the ’60s and ’70s, including Santana, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Deep Purple and Dire Straits.

The following day is the Durban Poison Comedy Festival, featuring one of the biggest line-ups of Durban comics in Joburg.

They stellar line-up includes Muthu Murugan, Senzo Mthethwa, Anesh Dusrath, former eThekwini Speaker Logie Naidoo, Bash with Tash, Karou Charou, Sagie Murugan, Shika Budhoo, and kids comics Karou Charou Junior, and siblings Hridhay and Prerna Somera. There will also be a tribute to singers Kishore Kumar and Kumar Sanu.

If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, a motor show will run over the two days.

It will include sound pressure levels, sound quality, bass boxing, show and shine, nite glo, classic cars, muscle cars and the first of its kind Festival of Ford.

Children under 10 and senior citizens will enter free.
